How to Volunteer

In our hospital, we have children ages 0-18 that could benefit from the time you could give to them each week. We have children of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of needs. If you could read a book, play a video game, or even color with a child, your time would be valued and appreciated. Perhaps you could sit with them while they have an X-ray, or surf the Internet with a teenager in the teen computer room. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and we welcome your support at Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital.

There are many ways you may become involved as a CMC - Northeast Volunteer. Skills needed include: ability to make a commitment to a regular volunteer work schedule, ability to follow policies and procedures set forth by CMC - Northeast, ability to work independently, willingness to help others, and a friendly smile!

How to Donate

Many people and area groups would like to donate materials to our pediatric areas and playrooms. While we appreciate donations, we are often unable to utilize used and worn toys, games, and books for health and safety concerns.

To better utilize your generous donations, NorthEast Foundation has established the " E.L.L.A. Fund" - Encourage, Laughter, Learning, Achieving . Monetary donations to this fund will be administered by the Child Life Specialist to purchase needed items for the playroom, including books, games, software, toys, holiday and seasonal party supplies, and any other current needs from the Pediatrics, NICU, or PICU departments.

To donate to the ELLA Fund, please contact the NorthEast Foundation through our web site.

Tours & Group Visits

We encourage all groups desiring to visit our children in the pediatric areas to schedule a tour time and date in advance with our Child Life Specialist. This helps to minimize disruptions on the pediatric floors and to help our staff better prepare for coverage as additional staff are needed to guide your group through the tour.

Policies & Procedures:
The Child Life Specialist will accompany your group through entire visit and will meet each group at the pediatric doors to begin. Tours are 30 minutes in length and cover the basic areas of the pediatrics department. Areas that are not included in the tour are the NICU, PICU, mother/baby, and any isolation rooms. Group members will be asked to use foam hand sanitizer upon entry and exit.

We request that each group be no larger than 20 persons and not include children under 6 years of age. With parental permission, tours may enter patient rooms, but please refrain from asking questions about the patient's condition or reason for admission to either the child, parents, or child life specialist.

To schedule a tour for a school, church, or civic group, please contact the Child Life Specialist at (704) 783-2303.
